le sson no1

never piss off the "Admiral" (not that we pissed him off....but still). well yet another glorious friday night sail under our belts... thank you all.
nice job Gavin (or is it really; nice job Sean'n Joyce [?])

28 September 2005

backyard night shot #2. see back yard night shot #1 for comparison.
if only any of it was edible yet! lots of tomatoes, greens, and squash coming in...who wants to come over for dinner in a month?
well it finally happened (for me to see anyway); we sailed into the channel with the kite up....and then jibed and sailed (and we could have made it all the way) out of the channel before jibing again into the yacht club (give or take a 180 degree turn).
the days they are a getting shorter but the sunsets are seemingly so much more beautiful on the Light'n Up. thanks again for all the fun. [editors note; I have already kicked myself for not bringing a camera]

friday night

so christ there I was on a whaler trying to take pictures of the ol' #3 when I hear (as I am looking through the lense) "um...come up!...oh shit! BEAR OFF!" (or something along those lines) in turn I told the driver of the whaler that when I said to get "close" I didn't mean that we needed to count nose hairs or anything like that!

"how many people can you fit on that boat?!"....more than this........trust me (but notice how there is no waterline at all).

what would you put here?...

...

Well the wedding of Julia and Lance, even though it was real cold on the cliff where it was, was a treat. I will post some more photos once the fog clears from my brain and I can sort through them all.

met alot of great people.....shocker that Julia would have such wonderful friends.

the life of the party

on this day in history;

in boston harbor the very first U.S. lighthouse, on Little Brewster Island, lit its lamp for the first time. The original tower, built in 1716, was destroyed during the Revolutionary War. The tower that stands there today was built in 1783.

Yes It is tuesday...and I know this isn't a sailing photo....or recent....but we did go sailing tonight (too wet for photos even if I did bring the cam-er-ha). It was, as always; great....but please enjoy another photo of our friend the goose (which is MIA anymore....I wonder if someone had her for dinner.....mmm goooose).

11 September 2005

Nice sail again just the admiral and I. We had a trecherous time going down the channel very close hauled with the kite up....honestly I didn'y think we would make it. The photo is from the deck of "Genuine Risk"; a maxi here in the bay area to compete in the "Big Boat Series". Quite a boat. Next to her was "Morning Glory" [no decnt photo...dumbass me] (another "BIG" boat).

as promised; more garden photos....3 lettuce plants, eggplant, and broccolli; the latest of my future diet (I hope that in a month or so I will be able to have dinner strictly from my garden).

06 September 2005

a rare "monday sail" with the holiday. I was too busy to take any large amount of photos with just the admiral and I aboard. great sail, great wind, never really went below 6knts, flew the kite back and forth between 10-30dgs of the lee, and although we heard that it didn't look pretty; we had alot of fun doing it.

02 September 2005

why we went out;

friday night

as the saying goes; "another friday...another great sail" thank you all.

truth;

The bowmansunion introductory
self-examination for beginning bowmen;

"So you want to be a Bowman? Or Bow woman ?
Maybe you're tired of being an under appreciated grinder. Or you have finally shed that extra 20 pounds and feel it's time to redeem yourself on the pointy end. Well here is a short test to get you going in the right direction and help you to see if you have what it takes to become a bowman.

First of all, to be a good bowman, you must have a high tolerance for pain under many adverse conditions. Dealing with pain and continuing to perform the duties of the bow is paramount to being successful in this position. Seeing if you have what it takes is simple, just follow these few steps.

1. To make things realistic, start a cold shower and get in. I recommend wearing your foul weather gear, but that's up to you.
2. Spin around about ten times or so, just enough to make it seem like the shower is "heeled over".
3. Now, with a medium sized frying pan, give yourself a good whack on the top of the head while yelling "MADE!"
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 every five minutes or until you black out. SEE FIG. 1"

wtf? wow

this! will make you cry and have a pain in yer stomach.

not yer usual beer can

well we didn't win, we didn't do badly either (hooray!). no real highs on the knot-o-meter but I recall some lows on the depth-o-meter (yikes). wet?....didn't even get a drop. windy?.....from everywhere and noplace at once but nothing big. no "grill yer own" on this strangely scheduled race but terrific pasta at chez gavin (yummm!). there are a few photo's from the race here. Thank you all again for continued good times!
