Another great sail on ol' # 3.

27 April 2005

Sailing yesterday was very fun. We went out to about Angel Island and watched the "could turn bad" weather turn "bad" on us...when it started to rain we set the kite and headed back to Richmond. As we got into the channel the rain stopped so we went further down the channel to dry out the spinaker...then set the jib took the kite down and tried to dry the jib out on the way back...we had a nice ride despite the rain and maintained a steady 8.5 knots or so. I now understand why the admiral says..."I don't 'do' rain"...but it was fun to find out why...(does that mean that the rain is ok to sail in? maybe in august it would be nicer). [note; this photo was taken on a LG L1400 cell phone...yes I have entered the world of fancy ass camera-phone].

This is a later shot of Sundays party for the "new" Light'n-up that doesn't show the swarm of people that had been there (this crew, minus maybe two or three people went sailing afterwards). If you were there; thanks for making it so enjoyable for everyone...if you were not; sorry we missed you...

we even hired a duck/dog act

make no mistake...the Light'n-up is sailing again.

This is our friend "flat Clint", I can't wait till the "real Clint" pays us another visit 'cause I sure do miss that guy. What a great sail we had today...no? (leave a comment...its so easy just click on the comment button)

the race was cancercell-d (that bitch)....so we won because we had the coolest boat and had the most fun...right?

Wow! what can I say about Mom...she's just great. (comments please)

Well aside from a few minor details...the boat, she is finished. Yesterday Karl put the name on and today is our first race. Thank you to our name/ stern model who flew in at such short notice for the photo shoot and certainly to everyone involved...

Here it is; the very first hoisting of the light'n-up's mainsl'...she's all done and faster thanYOUR BOAT....

it was Gavin Clark Turner's very first sail today too. He slept for the most of the time...

...until he thought he could trim the back-stay...

...he was very snug and in Moms foul weather coat..

...what a shy bunch...

...it got rather windy towards the end of our sail!!...

....I'm not afraid of no stinking strange sail on the stinking horizon...bring the pig on...they have much catching up to do anyway...

this is the "Red Oak" victory ship. these ships were used during WW2 and this was the last one of its kind built in Richmond.

Is that all there is to a boat retrofit?

So I know that the boat hasn't been anywhere exciting (for some), and that my posts have kinda sucked (some), but that is all about to change...(it's going to get worse!)...because some of you ARE going to leave comments!!!!...and the boat is going to start sailing very soon...thanks again to the Berkeley Marine Center, to the Admiral, all that have put their blood, sweat, and tears into this, and of course "Mom".

OK this is the first of many trivia questions for all of you out there; what is this? [now I know some of you "know" but some of you "don't"...so this is for those of you that "don't"....]; there is a special prize (yet to be determined) for the best answer [however wrong or right it may be] leave your answer as a comment and good luck.

...we are so damn close...and that ufuque left early tonight!
