Back East

Well I have made it back east to visit with my family and attend the wedding of my cousin Josh safely. Carol and Bunky were down from Vermont and so we all had a tender dinner of salmon, roasted vegetables, tuna, chicken, potatoes, & wine, finished off with homemade brownies 4 different variety of icecream with kalua poured over the top. Having spent the night at the Oakland airport so not to miss my 630am flight the night before (and not really sleeping) it was a welcome relief to sleep so soundly on a flat surface. Today we drive down to Baltimore for a few days of wedding festivities....Tapas tonight, wedding tomorrow, and a "bluegrass BBQ" on Saturday. Not sure about Sunday. The weather is unusually cool and crisp with all the rain that has been here in the mountains but I already miss the salty air of the bay area.

The last night of the Wednesday Night Beer Can Series was virtually windless. there was alot of "I wonder if we are going to make it?"...."get a tow-line ready"...."are we making it?"....."uuummmm?!"......"ok so let's....actually hold on"....."is that dark shape ahead of us a sailboat without the lights on"....."are we going to hit anything?"....and so on. it was a beautiful night though to watch the sunset and darkness start to take over. as usual my burger was cooked perfectly....how do they do it? thanks again all.

part of the fearless/armless crew.

so I do get accused sometimes of "Eric's being 'artsy' again" or "Ansel Eric" so I thought I would include a couple of the rather strange shots that I do take from time to time.

our sunset and what it would look like if your head spun quickly 180deg.

the legend

as you will be able to tell I was a little entranced by Ralph Stanley the other day.

there are three generations of Stanley on this stage (if you look close Ralph is wondering what the hell that 'ne there's a-doin' with that durn camerha)--or---(they were hammin' it up for the lense).

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass No 5....it seems that ol' Ralph here is listening to make sure the banjo player is doing as well as he would've done back at the same age. Although Mr Stanley didn't play his banjo he sang like he did when he was 17 years old. Don't know how much longer he will be around (he has to be in his mid 80's) but he is still as sharp as ever.

I never thought that I would ever think this but to have Ralph Stanley staring down at you from the stage is enough to give a grown man goosebumps.
